Opinion: Kamala’s Kolumn – Tomorrow Is The Future I’ve Been Waiting For
By Kamala Harris, Incoming United States Secretary of Time and Former Vice President of the United States
My Fellow Timekeepers,
Tomorrow is a day that holds so much significance. It is March 15, 2024—a moment in time where the past, the present, and the future will converge as I am sworn in as the first-ever Secretary of Time. I must say, I have never been so eager for the passage of hours as I am right now.
Time, you see, is fascinating. It moves at the same pace for everyone, yet we all feel it differently. Right now, it feels like time is crawling, each second hanging in the air like a moment waiting for meaning. But tomorrow, oh, tomorrow! Tomorrow, time will feel swift, purposeful, and filled with the promise of what’s to come.
I often say that time is not just about minutes or hours—it’s about moments. And this moment, the eve of stepping into such a monumental role, is one I am savoring with every fiber of my being. But let’s be honest: I really wish time would hurry up already!
Time Waits for No One, and Neither Will I
As Secretary of Time, I plan to hit the ground running—or should I say, hit the clock ticking? My work will be about ensuring time is equitable, fair, and meaningful for all. No more Februarys with 28 days that leave us feeling short-changed. No more arbitrary time changes that disrupt our internal rhythms. The future of time will be inclusive, logical, and yes, as I like to say, timely.
I can hardly sleep. I lay awake, staring at my alarm clock, watching each second pass, hoping to will tomorrow into existence sooner. I think about all the possibilities, the endless potential of time, and how we can make it work for us rather than against us.
Today is Today, But Tomorrow Will Be Today Tomorrow
It’s remarkable to think that today—this very today—will soon be yesterday. And tomorrow will become today. Time is such a wondrous thing, isn’t it? It reminds us that every today is an opportunity to create a better tomorrow while learning from yesterday.
As I stand on the threshold of this new role, I am filled with gratitude and anticipation. Gratitude for the trust placed in me to lead this unprecedented department, and anticipation for the incredible work ahead.
So, here’s to tomorrow. May it come swiftly, may it be filled with purpose, and may it set the stage for a future where time is no longer just a ticking clock, but a tool for progress, equality, and understanding.
See you all in the future—also known as tomorrow.
Yours in Time,
Kamala
