Opinion: Kamala’s Kolumn – The Passage of Time: A Nomination of Historic Significance
By Kamala Harris, Former Vice President of the United States and United States Secretary of Time Nominee
Hello, dear readers!
As I sit here typing these words, I am overwhelmed by the sheer significance of this moment. Just the other day, the announcement of my nomination as the first-ever Secretary of Time filled me with an indescribable sense of pride and purpose. Today, I am living that reality. Tomorrow, I will still be living that reality, but it will be tomorrow’s reality, not today’s. And that, my friends, is what makes today so important.
I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to President Trump for his faith in my ability to oversee time itself. It is a role that requires vision, clarity, and—most importantly—an understanding that the passage of time is not just about moving forward, but about appreciating where we’ve been and where we’re going.
The Confirmation Process: A Journey Through Time
Next up is the Senate confirmation process, a journey that will test my resolve, my patience, and my ability to explain, in intricate detail, why time matters. It will be an opportunity to address questions like:
- How do we define time?
- Can we win against daylight saving time?
- Is now always the best time to start?
These are questions that I’ve pondered for years and ones I look forward to discussing with our senators, who are just as eager to explore the complexities of time as I am—or at least they will be once I explain it to them.
A Role for the Ages
As Secretary of Time, I hope to inspire Americans to make the most of every second. Each tick of the clock is a reminder that time is fleeting, but also abundant. Today is today, and yesterday was today, yesterday. Tomorrow will be today, tomorrow. My mission is to ensure that every today is as impactful as it can be, and that the future today builds on the foundation of the past today.
In the words of an old proverb: Time waits for no one. Unless, of course, we ask it politely.
Looking Ahead
As I prepare for this confirmation process, I want to thank all of you who have supported me, cheered for me, and maybe even scratched your heads a little at what this role might mean. Together, we’ll embark on a journey of timekeeping, time making, and time cherishing.
Because time, my friends, is the most precious gift we have. And now, it’s my job to make sure it’s treated with the respect and care it deserves.
Until next time (which is technically now if you’re reading this later), live every moment like it’s today—because it is!
Warm regards,
Kamala
